Hold Your Head High—You Have Been Wonderfully Made

It is so easy to get enamored with the hidden mysteries within the bible that we often forget to focus on and appreciate some of the more simple—yet very powerful—bible messages. Today, I would like to discuss one of these simpler, yet very powerful, biblical truths.
The Book of Genesis makes it very clear that God spoke His magnificent creation into existence. On several occasions statements are made that begin with these words: “And God said let there be……. And there was ………” We also see in the Book of Hebrews: “We understand that the universe was formed at God’s command, so that what is seen was not made out of what was visible.” (Heb 11:3) It was not made out of what was visible because God “created” matter from absolutely nothing! Our God is very powerful and He has chosen to give His spoken word great authority.
In the Book of Isaiah, God has this to say about His spoken word, “My word that goes out from My mouth: It will not return to Me empty, but will accomplish what I desire and achieve the purpose for which I sent it.” (Isa 55:11) This is quite interesting when you give it some thought; God’s spoken word actually has a purpose. Taking this idea a step further, we must remember that we have been created in God’s image. This means that when words are spoken from our mouths—the words have purpose. I suggest that each one of us give this some serious thought. We need to constantly remind ourselves that our spoken words are very powerful—we need to think before we speak. If you speak words with the purpose to attack—they attack. If you speak words with the purpose to love—they love.
I want to get back to the topic at hand. Our tongues and our words are a topic for another blog.
In the Old Testament God says this to the prophet Jeremiah, “Before I formed you in the womb I knew you, before you were born I set you apart; I appointed you as a prophet to the nations.” (Jer 1:5) This is a reminder to each and every one of us that God already has plans for us at the time we are actually conceived in our mother’s womb. I would venture to say that God most likely speaks us into existence at the time of our conception with His spoken word. God’s spoken word gives us a purpose, a God-name with meaning!
On several occasions in the bible, God shows us the power of a name. In some cases God gives the individual a name before they are born; in other cases He actually changes a person’s name after that person has a change in the direction of their life. Before birth, God named both Jesus and John the Baptist. God changed the names of Abraham, Sarah, and Jacob; at significant turning points in their lives.
Here is the good news for each one of us. It is found in the Book of Psalms. David says this about the beginning of our earthly lives, “You, God, created my inmost being; You knit me together in my mother’s womb. I praise You because I am fearfully and wonderfully made; Your works are wonderful, I know that full well.” (Psalm 139:13-14)
We need to remember this and hold our heads up high. We have been “wonderfully made” by God—the creator of this great universe and our precious earth. He actually spoke us into existence in our mothers’ wombs. He spoke us into existence with purpose. A purpose that we know is for His glory. It is our challenge to pursue our purpose—our God-given purpose—with urgency. I urge you to “Hold your head up high, know that you are a child of the King, and work God’s purpose in your life!”
